Distillery vision

The New Horizon Development Company of Chengdu, China, has been running a competition to design the Lang-jiu Whisky Headquarters in Szechuan Province.

These images are from Richard Murphy Architects, who have designed a ‘Zigzag’ complex that includes the distillery, a stunning hotel and a conference centre, all sitting on the cliffs above the stunning gorge of the Red River. Murphy’s design references the shape of traditional Chinese landscape bridges. The proposal was presented to the client last month, along with rival plans by a Californian company. Amendments to both schemes are now under way.

I suspect the Managing Director of Lang-jiu will be voting for Murphy’s designs; the incredible corporate headquarters building has been designed with a cascade staircase to his office at the very top!
