In a new promotion by Whyte & Mackay, 250 bottles of their ‘Special’ whisky on sale in the UK are actually filled with Whyte & Mackay 30 Year Old. You can only tell if you’ve got an upgraded bottle by looking under the bottle cap.
To launch this promotion, the company have created a rather awkward YouTube video, featuring their Master Blender Richard Paterson arguing with the Chairman about how they should be giving away their 30 Year Old whisky. He then breaks into the bottling plant and changes the contents of one of the bottles.
The company is clearly trying to connect with a new and younger audience through promotions such as this and through their blog.
What’s not clear is who would download the Master Blender’s TomTom voice for their car!
